You say goodbye to family and friends for what may be the last time and head up the road. You are also outfitted with elf-crafted armor and given enough food to reach the dungeons. In preparation for your journey, you are given an enchanted sword, taken from a dragon's hoard in the far off Dark Mountains. Your reward for the completion of this task will be a full membership in the local guild, plus you are allowed to keep all the loot you bring back from the dungeons. Your task is to return with the Amulet of Yendor. As a test of your skills, the local guildmasters have sent you into the Dungeons of Doom. To stop all those deaths becoming too repetitive, the planet you're invading is built using a mixture of pre-created and procedurally generated areas. It's due for release later this year, is on Greenlight now, and there's a demo and trailer below.Īs the name implies, Rogue Invader is being pitched as a roguelike, meaning you'll die early and often in your attempts to fight back against an alien force. The results are occasionally dandy and occasionally like staring at the world's highest resolution Game & Watch.īeneath all that? A roguelike about arming and advancing a supersoldier in a shooty-bang fight against an alien planet. Anything that appears grey is created by alternating black and white pixels such that they create the illusion of greyness. It's described as "1-bit HD", in that it has smooth animation, 3D models and physics, but they're hidden behind rendering that only uses black and white pixels. Rogue Invader's art style confounds my ability to form opinions. ![]()
